Just after 4:15pm, Sunday afternoon, it was reported by the Oregon Department of Transportation that all lanes of Interstate 5 were closed in both directions for what at the time was being described as law enforcement activity and crash reconstruction.
Information obtained as the incident regarding the closure progressed approximately 5 miles south of Grants Pass indicate the incident was related to shots being fired. The Oregon Department of Transportation advised that closure could be lengthy and that a detour was in place redirecting traffic to Hwy. 99.
As of 5:00pm the northbound slow lane was open, however, all southbound lanes remained closed before all northbound lanes of Interstate 5 were reopened while only the southbound slow lane was open to traffic at 7:00pm.
Witnesses and social media have indicated that a high speed chase, leading to a crash followed by an alleged officer related shooting are all related to this incident.
