Man Arrested after Leading Chase Impaired, and Striking Deputy

Early Tuesday afternoon, a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a report from an ambulance crew regarding an unresponsive man slumped over the wheel of his vehicle, in the vicinity of North Coos River Hwy just after 1:00pm.

The subject was identified as 27 year old Wyatt R. Morgan after being located by the Deputy at Rooke Higgins boat ramp. As the Deputy initiated contact with Higgins, Higgins attempted to cut the Deputy’s wrist with a large knife as the Deputy attempted to take Higgins into custody. He then struck the Deputy with his vehicle as he ran over the Deputy’s foot before driving over a steep embankment in an attempt to evade arrest and a vehicle chase ensued.

The vehicle chase went down N. Coos River Hwy., through a construction zone, before Morgan crashed the vehicle into a fence at Ferona County Park. Morgan then exited the vehicle and fled on foot before being tased, taken into custody, and arrested on multiple charges.
