Just after 9:30am Monday morning, fire crews from Rural Metro Fire responded to reports of a structure fire near Wilderville.
Sheriff’s Deputies were needed to confirm the scene’s security, based on previous contact at the location, before fire crews could safely enter the scene.
The first fire crews to arrive on scene observed a large structure already fully involved. It was determined that flames from the approximately 3000 square foot shop did not pose a threat to the main house, and fire crews from multiple surrounding agencies including Grants Pass Fire Rescue, Illinois Valley Fire District, Jackson County Fire District #1 and Williams Rural Fire Protection District were requested to provide mutual aid.
While battling to control the blaze during initial suppression efforts, the roof of the structure collapsed, forcing crews to work from the exterior until the sheet metal roofing could be peeled away.
A motorhome and two passenger vehicles were damaged, however no injuries were reported.
