Azalea girls basketball coach Kyla Siri brought a different team to the AZ Bruin arena Monday night after playing their second game of the season last Wednesday evening.
On Monday night, the AZ girls started the game running a fast break offense, surprising Marshfield with the attack, and slowing any counter defensively.
Both teams played each other evenly to start the contest, running on fast break attempts, and defensively challenging all shots, leaving the game tied at 4 halfway through the first quarter.
Coach Siri settled the team inserting offensive plays into the scheme, and the AZ girls took a 4 point lead into the second period.
Defense kept the AZ girls leading after two periods of play, as the team dropped into a 2-3 zone, holding Marshfield to only 7 points, and taking a 18-14 lead into the locker room at the break.
The third period had Marshfield pressing the AZ girls and running after rebounds, but the AZ girls matched Marshfield early, maintaining their 4 point lead midway through the third.
But Marshfield continued, closing the lead to just 2 points after allowing the AZ girls just 2 points in the third period.
The AZ girls continued the tough defense, using it to start their offense, as well as holding Marshfield to only 2 points in the 4th, to take the win.
The AZ Bruin girls will turn around and be on the road tonight, Tuesday, November 16th, traveling to Crescent City to take on Crescent Elk at 5:00pm, before traveling to North Bend this Saturday to participate in the North Bend tournament.
