Late Saturday evening, September 4th, the Brookings and Harbor Fire Departments were dispatched to an active structure fire on Valley Street in Brookings just after 10:45pm.
The first fire unit arrived on scene within minutes of being dispatched to a fully involved structure on fire, with three other near by structures threatened. While the residents in the three surrounding threatened structures were evacuated, initial attacks on the burning residence were made.
The fire was knocked down and under control at 11:40pm, however, the structure suffered severe damage, and all of the contents were destroyed either by direct fire impingement or smoke damage.
Just before midnight, after the initial blaze was brought under control, the residents of the threatened structures were able to return to their homes. There were no reported injuries to the public or fire personnel.
The fire has been investigated by an Oregon State Fire Marshals Deputy as well as the Brookings Fire Dept., and appears suspicious in nature, and the investigation is continuing.
