Smoke Continues to be an Issue as High Pressure Builds of the Coast

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality on Wednesday extended an air quality advisory for Jackson, Klamath and Lake counties and issued an air quality advisory for Curry and Josephine counties due to smoke from wildfires in the Oregon Cascades and Northern California. These advisories are expected to last until at least Friday closer to the coast, however, are likely to continue into the weekend in the valley.

The coastal stratus has returned to the southern Oregon and northwest Californian coastal areas and the stratus should only become more persistent the next few days as high pressure rebuilds over the west coast.

Inland, widespread smoke will persist until the weekend, before a northwest wind moves into the region pushing smoke to the east, leaving localized smoke and haze under mostly clear skies. Temperatures will begin to slowly rise over the next few days, reaching highs in the upper 90’s with the possibility of triple digits late in the weekend. Lows will range from the upper 50’s to low 60’s.

Coastal areas will continue to see hazy skies under an air quality advisory, clearing in most areas as the weekend progresses under mostly sunny afternoon skies. High temperatures will reach the low to mid 70’s in the afternoons, with early morning lows in the low 50’s.
