The Del Norte County Sheriff’s office received information of an explosive device Sunday, August 1st, from an individual walking in the area, located about 12.5 miles up Southfork Road, in Del Norte County..
Once located, initial inspection of the device, which had the appearance of what would be described as a “pipe bomb”, and showed signs of being left in its location for several days, was subsequently confirmed by responding law enforcement personnel to possibly be dangerous.
A perimeter was immediately established and maintained by members of the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue while a request for assistance was made to the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office.
The device was rendered ‘safe’ Monday, and disposed of accordingly and the Del Norte County Sheriff’s office is asking anyone with any information regarding this incident to please contact the Del Norte County Sheriff’s office at (707)464-4191.
