Fitzhugh Goes Off for 25 as Lady Bruins Crush Crusaders

Coming off of a Monday road win at North Valley, the Lady Bruins hit the road again on Tuesday to take on the Lady Crusaders at St. Mary’s in Medford.

Coach Schofield has had the Lady Bruins focused after a tough loss to Sutherlin last week, and defense has been a major area that has stifled opponents in the Lady Bruins last two outings.

The Lady Crusaders were overwhelmed from the start of the game and had no answers to counter the Lady Bruins pressure. In the first quarter, the Lady Bruins allowed only one basket and two free-throws, holding the Lady Crusaders to only 4 points.

Offensively #1 Lexi Schofield led the Lady Bruins in the 1st period with 6 points from 3 baskets, Sierra Fitzhugh #00 had 5 points, Shelby Jirsa #5 hit a 3 pointer and Lily Peters #2 and Ashlyn Schofield #44 both hit baskets as the Lady Bruins broke out to an 18-4 lead.

Sierra Fitzhugh took the game over in the 2nd period hitting a 3 pointer, 4 baskets and free-throw for 12 points, and sophomore Ashlyn Schofield #44 continues to establish herself in the paint, going 4 for 4 from the free-throw line and then hitting from behind the arc for 3 points as the Lady Bruins put another 21 points in the 2nd period.

The Lady Crusaders could not establish any consistent offense against the Lady Bruin defense, and had no answer for the Lady Bruin offense as the Lady Bruins scored another 15 in the 3rd period led by Fitzhugh again with 6 points. Sophomore Marissa Scott #34 and Ashlyn Schofield each hit two baskets in the period.

Sierra Fitzhugh had her second straight game with over 20 points after outscoring the entire Lady Crusader team herself with 25 points. Ashlyn Schofield finished with 13 points on the night and Marissa Scott and Lexi Schofield finished with 8 points each.

“We came out of the gates really strong tonight.” coach Schofield told the Compass after the game, “and we Executed really well offensively and rotated well defensively. “I was just really proud of the effort and attention to detail tonight.”

The Lady Bruins are scheduled to take on the Cascade Christian Lady Challengers Thursday night at 6:00pm.
