12 year old Detained for First Degree Disorderly Conduct after Threat at School

On Thursday, June 3rd, Officers with the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety were notified by District 7 School Officials of a reported threat made by a student who attends North Middle School.   The original report was immediately investigated and detectives began following up with interviews and leads. During the initial contact with witnesses, the suspect’s identity was undetermined.

On Monday, June 7th, Detectives, a School Resource Officer and School Marshals with DPS were present at the school to ensure the safety of students and staff and to continue the investigation. While the officers were at the school, further investigation led to the identity of the juvenile suspect who was later positively identified as the 12 year old male student individual who made the verbal threat. The juvenile was taken into custody while at the school. 

At the conclusion of the investigation, the juvenile was lodged at the juvenile was lodged at Josephine County Juvenile Justice Center for Disorderly Conduct in the First Degree, while the case is being sent to the Juvenile Department for filing of charges.

The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety and the District 7 Administration take all threats of violence and harm seriously. These types of cases will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted if a crime has been committed. The safety and welfare of the students who attend all District 7 Schools are a top priority for the Grants Pass DPS and school officials.
