Routine Hwy. 199 Traffic Stop Leads to High Speed Chase, Crash and Arrest

An attempt to perform a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 199 in the Selma area by a Josephine County Sheriff’s Deputy resulted in a high speed chase after the vehicle failed to lawfully stop.

The Deputy and a Trooper from the Oregon State Police pursued the fleeing vehicle through Selma until the vehicle turned towards Lake Selmac. The suspect vehicle, later identified as 28 year old Gavin Moore, then turned onto Reeves Creek Road with the Deputy and Trooper still pursuing.

While on Reeves Creek Road, another Trooper from the Oregon State Police was able to successfully deploy spike strips as the suspect vehicle continued back towards Highway 199.

The suspect vehicle then turned southbound onto Highway 199 and crashed into a northbound vehicle before crashing into a ditch alongside Highway 199.

The driver and occupant of the northbound vehicle that was struck by the fleeing suspect declined medical treatment or transport at the scene of the crash. The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety responded to the scene and investigated the crash.
