On Thursday, June 5th, 29 year old Skyler Stewart was located in Crescent City by the Crescent City Police Department and taken into custody.
Stewart was being sought by authorities since Monday, May 24th after the Crescent City Police Department was dispatched to reports of a possible domestic battery on North Highway 101.
Upon arrival Crescent City Police Department Officers contacted the victim and learned that the victim had been attacked in her sleep and awoken by being struck in the face several times by the suspect, who was also making threats to kill her.
Skyler Stewart was later identified as the suspect and that he had used a handheld torch to light a blanket on fire that the victim was underneath of. Stewart had also forcefully taking the victim’s cell phone from her possession during this incident so she could not call 911.
The Crescent City Police Department established probable cause to arrest Stewart for Attempted Homicide, Corporal Injury to a Spouse, Criminal Threats, Arson, and Robbery.
Stewart was taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued by the Del Norte Superior Court after an investigation reviewed by the Del Norte County District Attorney’s Office. After being located and during the arrest procedure, Stewart was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance and is also facing other charges stemming from violating terms of his probation.
Stewart was lodged in the Del Norte County Jail for Inflicting Corporal Injury Upon Spouse, Robbery, Criminal Threats, and Arson.
