Just after 11:00 AM Monday morning October 23, a bomb threat was directed at Del Norte High School. The threat, received by e-mail, prompted school officials to immediately close and evacuate the campus.
The College of the Redwoods and other nearby school campuses were also alerted to the situation.
Emergency official descended on the campus as students were ushered out and released for the day. Officials from the Del Norte Sheriff’s office, Crescent City Fire, and Crescent City Police departments, as well as the U.S. Marshall’s office, responded to the campus and conducted a search of the area.
Students and faculty were off campus in just over an hour as buildings and vehicles were searched as a precaution due to the unsubstantiated bomb scare.
As of Monday evening, Law Enforcement agencies had cleared Del Norte High School. No dangerous items were found. Individuals with a vehicle at the site were then permitted to retrieve their vehicle.
School buildings remained closed to all students throughout the evening, but classes resumed Tuesday morning on their normal schedule.
