Brookings-Harbor High School varsity track coach Jason Fulton and 8 members of his varsity track team traveled to Legends Field in Harrisburg Oregon Tuesday to participate in the 3A Track and Field Culmination Meet competing for state honors.
Returning state Javelin champion, senior Derek Tuttle, who dominated the men’s Javelin throughout the season with a personal best throw of 182′-1″ during regular season, out threw the nearest Javelin competition by almost 20-feet, with a throw of 178′-02″ to retain his championship.
Junior Skylar Gallagher, who finished on the podium three times during the regular season in the triple jump, finished 5th in the state with a personal record jump of 31′-6.5″.
Junior Miguel Ramos went to the state championships representing the Bruins in three events, the 400m, the long jump and the 4x100m relay team. In the 400m Ramos ran a personal record 52:49 finishing 4th in the state.
Junior 100m Hurdler Megan Pearson who set a school record in the ladies 100m hurdles during the regular season finishing in 18.31, placed 10th in the state with a time of 18:55.
In the Pole-Vault, the Bruins Cody Lee dominated the Pole Vault during the regular season, clearing over 10′ consistently, finished 4th, matching his personal record jump from earlier in the season at 11′-0″.
The Bruin 4x100m Relay team finished on the podium in all of the regular season match-ups with time of 46:76 being their quickest lap around the track. The team of Uriel Cortez, Jake Beaman, Cody Lee,and Miguel Ramos finished 7th in the state with their fasted time of the year, 46:61.
After the meet, coach Fulton took the time to share a few words with the Compass saying “We are very pleased with the how the kids performed and all their hard work. I would like to thank the school for their support getting us to the state meet, this past year has effected many people. To see the young people of the Brookings-Harbor area have success shows the resilience of our community, and our community should be very proud.”
