After a convincing win earlier in the week on Tuesday, the Bruins traveled to Medford to take on the St. Mary’s Crusaders in an afternoon double-header and complete the 3 game series.
In the opening game of the double-header,the Bruin offense set the tone early with senior Payton Armentrout #1 beating out an infield grounder getting the lead-off batter on the bags with no outs, steal 2nd and score on a double by Deshon. The Bruins would go on to add another run in the 1st and lead 0-2 after the 1st setting the tone for the rest of the game as the Bruin offense went on to score in every inning except the 4th.
BHHS Bruin head coach Keith Wallin handed the ball to #16, junior right-hander Jason DeShon, who took the 0-2 lead, and did not look back. DeShon went on to pitch 5 innings, strike-out 8 and allow 1 hit in what end being another Bruin shut-out.
In the late game, the Bruin offense opened off almost exactly as the first, getting the lead-off on, steal 2nd and 3rd, and score the lead-off runner off after stealing home on a passed ball.
But that would be all St. Mary’s would give to the Bruin offense early, sending senior Andrew Burger #29 to mound with only a 0-1 lead, and after seeing 5 Crusader batters sent the Bruins into the 2nd retaining their 0-1.
Burger retired the next 14 batters he saw in order from the bottom of the 2nd until 2 outs in the 6th, going 5-2/3 with 10 strike-outs. The Bruin offense was faring no better, as the Crusader pitching kept the Bruins off the board until the 5th when the Bruins added 4 more runs to take a 0-5 lead going into the 6th.
A furious push in the bottom of the 6th and 7th innings by the Crusaders would put 5 runs on the board after a 2 out rally in the bottom of the 6th, as the Bruins went on to take the 11-5 win as well as the series taking all three games.
The Bruins continue on Tuesday as they begin the final series of the season hosting the Sutherlin Bulldogs before traveling to Sutherlin Friday for the final scheduled games of the 2021 season.
