Lady Bruins Hold On to Win after Late Inning Lady Red Devil Rally

The Lady Bruins were on the road Wednesday traveling to Coquille to take on a Lady Red Devils team looking for a win after dropping their last two outings.

After dropping two of three to South Umpqua last week, coach Tony Baron’s Lady Bruins were looking to start putting a run of their together.

On the road, the Lady Bruin offense stepped into the box in the top of the first and sent seven batters to the plate, scoring two, giving senior right-hander Madison Taylor #22 a 0-2 lead to start the game.

Taylor would not let that hard work go unrewarded, sitting the Lady Red Devil lead-off batters down in order, striking-out two, and getting the final out on a pop-up. In the top of the second the Lady Bruin offense continued to dial up the pressure, sending seven batters again to the batters box and getting two more runs across the plate.

The Lady Red Devils continued to struggle against Taylor’s pitching, getting the next three outs on pop-ups, sending a Lady Bruin offense leading 0-4 back to the plate.

The Lady Bruins would control the entire game, putting up 9 runs and also saw senior right-hander Gracie Harms #27 return to the pitchers circle as well as junior Jordan Crosby #11 keeping the Lady Red Devils out of reach until a two out rally in the bottom of the 7th by Coquille bringing them within 2 runs before the final out ended the game 9-7 Bruins.

“We jumped out to an early lead and held it behind a strong pitching performance from Maddy Taylor and Gracie Harms who returned to play after being out for an injury for 3 games.” Lady Bruin head coach told the Compass. “Jordan Crosby came in for a couple innings and Maddy Taylor came back in to close out a late rally by the Devils. It was good to have Gracie back from being out for 3 games.” he said.

The Lady Bruins will be home Friday taking on the Gold Beach Lady Panthers starting at 3:00pm.
