Varsity coach Jess Beamans 8-0-1 Bruin boys soccer team walked onto the pitch Tuesday night knowing that they had clinched the first place spot in 4A-3 Far West League play and would be advancing into the playoffs with a home-field advantage.
It was the last home game of the regular season, Senior Night and Homecoming week all rolled into one and the team did not disappoint their loyal fans.
It took just 1:30 of game time to score the first goal on the winless South Umpqua / Riddle Cavalier team. Junior Luke Beaman #13 would feed Senior Sam Broberg #10 who would find the back of the net to start the days scoring.
The game, although one-sided, was not without its good plays as the Bruins used good passing to put together quality plays to get the ball behind the Cavalier keeper. Early in the contest senior Sterling Torrance #16 placed a cross into the middle of the box finding senior Ryan Botnen #3 who would finish off the play with a header getting past the Cavalier keepers diving left hand.
The Bruins would take a 7-0 lead into the halftime break as South Umpqua / Riddle really posed no threat to the Champion Brookings-Harbor Bruin team. The second half would be much of the same as the varsity boys team toyed with the visiting team in their last home game of the regular season going on to a 12-0 win.
The Boys will finish their regular season on the road in Marshfield this Thursday after finishing 1st in the 4A-3 Far West League. They will host a 1st Round OSAA Play-Off Game on Wednesday, November 1st. The final league games of the regular season need to be played out before the Bruin playoff opponent can be announced.
