On Sunday, April 11th, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a caller recreating with family, of a possible explosive device in the Elliot State Forest northeast of Coos Bay .
Deputies were dispatched to the area and arrived at about 12:30pm and located the area and a device that appeared to be a live explosive device.
Deputies immediately contacted the Oregon State Police Unit and shared information and pictures of the device which the Oregon Explosives Unit agreed to be a live explosive device and was dispatched from Central Point.
The area was secured by Deputies as Oregon State Police troopers arrived on scene and the Oregon State Police Explosives Unit destroyed the explosive device before rendering the area safe.
The Coos County Sheriff’s Office would like to advise anyone finding a similar or suspicious device that improvised devices can be unstable and dangerous to move. Leave the item in it’s place and call the police.
