Governor Brown Changes ‘Risk Level’ Matrix… Curry County Moves to ‘High Risk’

After releasing information regarding ‘changes’ to her ‘Risk Level’ matrix, Governor Brown released an updated risk level assessment to take effect Friday, April 9th.

The new statewide metric added for determining ‘Extreme Risk’ level is COVID-19 hospitalizations, as they are a key indicator of severe illness in Oregon communities. As vaccine distribution increases, case counts and percent positivity will not be adequate indicators on their own for measuring the threat COVID-19 poses to public health. As of this week, Oregon is adding a statewide hospitalization metric for moving to Extreme Risk.

“We are at a critical moment in this pandemic as we face more contagious variants of COVID-19 taking hold in our communities,” said Governor Brown.

“Now more than ever it’s imperative that we all continue wearing masks, maintain physical distance, stay home when sick, and get the vaccine when it’s available to you.”

For the reporting period of March 30th, through April 5th, Curry County Public Health has received notification of 21 new COVID-19 cases. All cases have been confirmed by Curry County Public Health Administrator Sherrié Ward, after receiving the lab results. Eighteen of these cases are South Curry County residents and three are Central Curry County residents. These cases are related to previously reported cases, large families, schools and from work places.

Under Governor Brown’s framework for assessing the risked posed by the spread of COVID-19, these new metrics regarding COVID-19 cases has moved Curry County from ‘Extreme Risk’ to ‘High Risk’ starting this Friday, April 9th.

As of April 5th, 2021 the total verified number of positive cases reported to Curry County Public Health for Curry County residents since the start of the pandemic is 563 with 9 deaths associated with Covid. Active cases currently for Curry County are 24 after adding the positive cases during the reporting period above and removing those whom are considered recovered based on Oregon Health Authorities guidelines.
