Lady Bruins Close Season With Win… Move on to Play-Offs

The Lady Bruin varsity soccer team ended their 2021 season Saturday, April 3rd, with a convincing and solid 6-0 win over the South Umpqua Lady Lancers. The Lady Bruins controlled the ball from the whistle, controlling passing lanes and challenging the Lady Lancer defense creating many scoring opportunities for the Lady Bruins.

The Lady Bruins defense had been solid through out the season with only 18 goals scored against them in the 2021 season. Teams struggled to get through the middle and put themselves in scoring position, while the outside defenders have been successful at cutting off fast breaks to the corners.

Senior Lexi Schofield #14 is the key to shutting down offensive attacks up the middle of the Lady Bruin defense.

The 6-1 Lady Bruins move on into the play-off picture starting Tuesday (today) April 6th against a 5-2  St. Mary’s Lady Crusaders team that handed the Lady Bruins a 0-3 loss in a non-league match-up earlier in the season.

Sophomore Marissa Scott #15 has been dependable breaking up plays in the Lady Bruin backfield.
Sophomore Zoe Carlson #11 started off the scoring with a long outside shot and ended up scoring 2 goals.

This first round play-off challenge will be at U.S. Cellular Fields in Medford at 4:00pm, and a win will propel the Lady Bruins on to a post season re-match with the Sutherlin lady Bulldogs who split the season series with the Lady Bruins, handing the Lady Bruins their only season league loss.

Talking with Lady Bruin head coach Brian Carlson, he told the Wild Coast Compass “I’m really proud of this team, they have continued to grow and improve all season. We had losses on back to back days, we’ve really learned from those setbacks. We have been much sharper in the games since then.” “We’re looking forward to our rematch with St Mary’s, they’re a very talented team, we want to go out and compete with really good teams. It’s the only way we get better”.
