At the beginning of the season, Coach Shew and her Lady Bruins dropped their first match of the 2021 season to Cascade Christian in straight sets. The Lady Bruins then hosted the Lady Lancers, and dropped their second match of the season in a close match. And then, the Lady Bruins went on a 4 match win streak through the rest of league, until they came upon Cascade Christian again, who ended their win streak last Thursday.
On Tuesday night, the Lady Bruins came up against the Lady Lancers again, the only other team to hand the Lady Bruins a loss in 2021. The Lady Lancers started strong, and asserted themselves at the net early, something South Umpqua failed to do in the first meeting and it almost cost them the match.
The Lady Bruins came out to the second facing their fourth straight set loss over the last two games, brushed off the debris of the 18-25 first set loss, and asserted themselves at the net, as well hustle. The Lady Bruins jumped out early in the set, and never let South Umpqua get confidence as they went on to take the decisive 25-16 set win.
The Lady Bruins picked up in the third set where they left off in the second, and took an early lead. But the Lady Lancers weren’t done and were determined to take back control, closing the gap to 17-16 before jumping out to a 17-20 lead before extending it to a 23-24 lead. The Lady Bruins then put together a 3 point run and took the set 26-24 in come from behind fashion.
In the fourth set the Lady Bruins never let South Umpqua in the set and took the set win, as well as the match 3-1, avenging and early season loss and starting a new second half season win streak.
The Lady Bruins will meet up this Friday with a 2-0 North Bend Lady Bulldog team, looking to extend their 5-3 2021 season record.
