As the country begins to adjust to the new administration and new priorities regarding COVID-19, President Biden stated from the White House, “Let me be very clear, things are going to continue to get worse before they get better”.
In a flurry of executive orders, the President ordered masks be worn on all mass interstate travel, including on buses, trains, and airplanes, and he mandated that all visitors to the US test negative before departing and quarantine upon arrival as officials in New York, Chicago, Wisconsin and Michigan release statements regarding the opening up of businesses and schools.
Oregon Governor Kate Brown has now decided that the opening of schools has become a priority and has implemented a plan to have educators vaccinated ahead of the most vulnerable senior citizens, stating the decision allows teachers to get vaccinated before the end of the school year and “puts a two-week delay on beginning vaccinations for seniors who live independently.”
In the state of Oregon, according to the Oregon Health Authority, Oregon has tested approximately 3,000,000 individuals and 181,000 individuals have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. A total of 7,469 individuals have required hospitalization since the outbreak, and unfortunately 1,865 have died.
Curry County’s latest numbers as reported Friday by the Oregon Health Authority, January, 23rd, now reports testing 6,982 individuals with 6,731 negative tests, 251 total positive COVID-19 tests and has recorded now 324 total cases and 5 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 12,363 individuals with 11,493 negative results, 27 active cases and 870 total confirmed cases reported by Public Health, with 0 current hospitalization and 2 deaths.
Coos County to the north, reported testing 26,088 individuals with 25,222 negative tests, with now 972 total positive cases and now 15 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Josephine County reports testing 38,356 individuals with 36,622 negative results, 1819 total positive cases of COVID-19 and 36 deaths.
Humboldt County to the south of Del Norte County reports 2,494 total cases after testing 64,311 individuals with 61,817 negative results, 565 active cases, 2,011 recoveries, 86 hospitalizations, and 25 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, January, 23rd.
Jackson County continues to see significant increases after testing 147,848 individuals with 138,977 negative test results, 7,073 total cases of COVID-19 with now 95 deaths as of Friday, January, 23rd.
