Just before 8:30pm, Monday evening, Rural Metro Fire with mutual aid assistance from the Illinois Valley Fire District responded to reports of a vehicle fire on Redwood Hwy. 199.
Rural Metro Fire arrived on scene near Hayes Hill and quickly knocked the blaze down, however, at one point, fire from the vehicle was blowing into opposing lanes.
The fire hazard prompted the Oregon Department of Transportation to shut down both the north and south bound lanes of traffic. A secondary incident occurred at the bottom of the grade after the fire was extinguished and after normal traffic flow had resumed when a motorist crashed into the back of an ODOT vehicle.
Mechanical failure is believed to be the cause of a vehicle fire, and no injuries resulted from either incident.
