Bruins Battle Douglas

Freshman Quarterback #4 Andrew Burger lines up the Bruin offense against Douglas Friday night.

Friday night means football at Bruin stadium, and the Bruins put on a good show. Brookings-Harbor hosted the Douglas Trojans Friday night and the Bruins showed up ready to play.

The Bruins started the game with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem at 7:00 PM with good field position following a Trojan kick-off. Brookings-Harbor would sustain a long drive eating up almost five minutes of the first quarter.

The Bruins ran the ball consistently up the middle and also to the outside with some big yardage on sweeps to the outside. Bailey Stamm #1 had a 50 yard run on a sweep play to the left of the offensive line in the first quarter. He would follow that up with a short-yardage touchdown run up the middle giving the Bruins an early 7-0 lead with 7:30 left in the 1st quarter.

Douglas would come out on their first possession with a mix of runs and passes in an attempt to keep the Bruins off balance. However, junior defensive back Nick Martinez #35 would end the Trojans opening drive with a well-timed interception at the 5:32 mark of the first quarter.

The Trojans would sustain a long drive at the end of the first period and score a rushing touchdown with 1:37 left in the first quarter.

The second quarter would be a defensive battle in the middle of the field for much of the time. However, the Bruins would have a punt partially blocked late in the half that the Trojans would return for a touchdown making the score 14-7 with 2:23 left in the first half.

Brig Schofield #2 looks on as Logan Holler #10 and Marcus Clay #16 make the stop.

After another stalled Bruin drive, Douglas would attempt to catch the Bruins off guard with a deep pass to the corner of the end zone, only to have Bruin Defensive back #35 Nick Martinez come down with his second interception of the night ending the first half.

The Bruin defense would play well, stopping Douglas and capitalizing on a few turnovers. However, the score would remain 14-7 going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter again would have no change in score until the Bruins attempt a fake punt deep in their own end just under five minutes left in the game, allowing the Trojans to take advantage and quickly scoring putting Douglas up 21-7 with 4:30 left in the game.

The Brooking-Harbor Defense played well against a strong Douglas team Friday night.

The Trojans would score once more making final score 28-7 at the final whistle.

The Bruins will travel to the undefeated Marshfield Pirates next Friday, looking for their first win of the season.
