BHHS Varsity Boys Challenged Early

Michael Kreger #15 makes the pass to Zachary Carlson #14

An undefeated Marshfield Pirate team with a 2-0-2 record traveled to the Bruins home Tuesday afternoon and met an undefeated Brookings-Harbor team.

The Bruins started the game attempting to play a ball control game with quick passing and stingy defense, however, the Pirates would show some good ball skills of there own.

The Bruins pressed hard and put together some outside runs to break the Marshfield defense on the edges. This tactic would pay off twice in the first 20 minutes of play when some nice passing would create outside breaks that lead to well-placed crosses. Roman Worthey #8 would not waste the opportunities and skillfully put them behind the Marshfield keeper.

The Pirates continued to challenge in the midfield resulting in some ball control issues from both teams throughout the remainder of the first half.

Bret Darger #21 with the take away from a Pirate forward.

With about 3:00 minutes left in the first half, a bouncing ball in the middle of the Bruin defense would result in the Pirates taking advantage with a break away of their own, getting behind the Bruin defense and finding the back of the net.

The Bruins would take a 2-1 lead into the second half which would be much of the same. However, the Bruin defense would control the Pirate offense as the Bruin goalkeeper took command of his defense.

Goaltender Jamie Cruz denies the Pirate offense again in the second half.

Brookings-Harbor keeper Jaime Cruz would prove to Marshfield that the Bruins were not just an offensive threat, but that they were a defense that could close the gaps and deny the Pirates. The Bruins would make Pirate scoring opportunities difficult, and the keeper would deny any shots that came his way shutting out the Pirates in the second half.

Defender #15 Michael Kreger pushes the Pirate forward outside.

A frustrated Pirate team would concede 2 more goals in the second half as the Bruins continued to pressure them in the middle of the defensive backfield with runs to break the Pirate offside trap.

Brookings-Harbor went on to win the game 4-1 and will be taking their undefeated season on the road as they travel to the Douglas Trojans Thursday afternoon.
