According to the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center, at approximately 1:54pm local time Monday afternoon, October 19th, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck off the Alaskan peninsula 55 miles southeast of Sand Point, Alaska.
The quake struck at a depth of 25 miles, was felt over 110 miles away and was followed by a 5.0 aftershock less than a minute after the original tremor and then several other aftershocks in the 4.0 to 5.0 magnitude area with in an hour after the original quake.
Tsunami warnings were issued to the surrounding Alaskan area.
