Oregon saw minimal growth in the total new cases of COVID-19 over the past week adding 2,409 new cases, only 46 more cases than the previous week. As a state, Oregon now has 38,926 total COVID-19 cases according to Oregon Health Authority reporting. Deaths now total 617 adding only 20 new reported deaths in the past week, 14 less than the previous week.
Governor Kate Brown announced Friday, October 16th, that Lane County has been added to the governor’s County Watch List, bringing the total number of counties on the Watch List to five now including the counties of Malhuer, Benton, Clatsop, Umatilla and now Lane County.
“The Oregon Health Authority continually monitors case counts across the state,” said Governor Brown. “Recognizing the case increases in Lane County over the last two weeks, OHA has already been working with Lane County Public Health to address the community spread they are experiencing.
“There is no question that the spread of COVID-19 in Lane County is connected—to a degree—to student social activities. Social gatherings, like off-campus parties, are incredibly dangerous and spread this disease.” “Let me be clear, she went on to say, “it will take the entire county working together to bring these COVID-19 numbers under control. Once COVID-19 is spreading in the community, small family get-togethers can also lead to dozens of infections.”
The same 6 northern Oregon counties of Clackamus, Marion, Multonomah, Umatilla, Washington and Linn County continue comprise 67% of the states total COVID-19 cases with 25,902 total cases of the states 38,926 cases in these counties alone. These counties also are responsible for 1,440 of the states 2,409 new cases in the past week as well as 446, or 72% of the states 617 total deaths.
Curry County’s latest report Friday, October 9th, now reports testing 2,200 individuals with 2,144 negative tests, and now has 14 active confirmed cases of COVID-19 after an outbreak at a Brookings senior memory care facility this past week. Curry County has 41 recovered cases and has now recorded 1 death of an 88 year old patient of the same Brookings senior memory care facility since the beginning of the pandemic.
Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 9,131 individuals with 8,958 negative results, 173 total confirmed cases, only 5 active cases reported to Public Health, with 3 current hospitalizations and 1 death.
Humboldt County to the south of Del Norte County reports 544 total cases, adding 15 new CoVID-19 cases in the past week after testing 32,444 individuals with now 16 active cases, 520 recoveries, 35 hospitalizations, no new deaths in the past week totaling now 8 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, October 16th.
Coos County to the north, reported testing 8,271 individuals with 8,122 negative tests, adding 9 new cases of COVID-19 in the past week with now 205 total positive cases and 0 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Josephine County reports testing 13,718 individuals with 13,497 negative results, adding 17 new cases in the past week, 253 total positive cases of COVID-19 and 2 deaths.
Jackson County continues to see significant increases after reporting another 78 cases of COVID-19 this past week after testing 39,814 individuals with 38,464 negative test results, 1,448 total cases of COVID-19, and no new deaths in the past week totaling 6 deaths as of Friday, October 16th.
