Violent Head-on Collision Closes Hwy. 199

A violent high-speed head-on crash just after 7:00pm Tuesday evening September 15th, that occurred on Redwood Hwy. 199 was discovered by an off-duty firefighter from Medford returning from the Slater Fire.

The off-duty firefighter from Medford drove up on the scene to find both vehicles about 100 yards apart. Upon arrival of rescue crews from Rural Metro Fire, GP Fire and AMR, efforts focused on extraction of the survivor out of the brush and up to the road.

Due to the circumstances, and size of the crash area, Redwood Hwy. 199 was closed in both directions for nearly 2 hours to provide a safe working area for rescue and law enforcement personnel to work the scene and conduct the investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Cavalier, operated by 38 year old Timothy Ibarra of Ashland, was southbound when it traveled into the northbound lane colliding with a Toyota operated by 42 year old Jeffrey Roberts of Wilderville who after being extricated was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries. Ibarra sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.
