Good Samaritans Pull Crash Victim from Burning Car

Just before 1:00pm Sunday afternoon, units from Rural Metro Fire, the Oregon Dept. of Forestry Southwest Oregon District and American Medical Response were dispatched to a fiery vehicle crash 20 miles up Bear Camp Road near the Curry County line.

First unit on scene from the Oregon Dept. of Forestry reported the fire had not spread very far into nearby brush, and that the two occupants of the vehicle were being treated by medically trained good Samaritans who had come upon the scene just in time to pull one of the occupants clear of the vehicle as it was being engulfed in flames.

The fire was easily contained and both occupants were eventually transported by ground ambulance with serious, but non life-threatening injuries. Multiple law enforcement agencies that responded are handling the investigation.

First responders wish to acknowledge and thank the good samaritans for their actions in today’s event. The incident occurred on a narrow, winding road that is used during summer months to get from the Rogue Valley to the coast. It travels through a very remote area without cell service. Motorists should drive carefully and be prepared to render independent aid in case of emergency.
