Construction work is underway on four infrastructure projects in Brookings.
Work on the Railroad street improvement project is progressing south from Wharf Street and has included underground storm drain work and grading. Construction on the segment of Railroad between Wharf and Fern Avenue is expected to continue through October.
This project will require a road closure and change in traffic patterns like earlier in the summer and is scheduled to be in effect September 5–October 31. Railroad Street will be open to southbound traffic one way starting at Memory Lane to Oak Street. Northbound traffic will be detoured to Hemlock and Spruce Streets.
Installation of a new 60-inch storm drain from the vicinity of McDonald’s restaurant to the west side of Railroad Street near U.S. Bank began today. Stakes and other markings indicating the storm drain route have been placed and materials have arrived for the $515,285 project.
Due to the storm drain project, Railroad Street will be closed to through-traffic between Pacific and 5th Street from September 5–30. If the project remains ahead of schedule, the street may be opened sooner.
The $93,120 water line replacement project in the vicinity of Spruce Drive is in progress and may be completed by Tuesday, 5 September. The project involves the installation of some 622 lineal feet of new 8” diameter water main and follow-up street paving.
Construction of a 200 foot 8” diameter water main extension to provide a fire hydrant and water services to the Brookings Airport and the Cal Ore Life Flight project is also set to begin the second week of September with a completion target date of September 27.
