After a decision late Friday afternoon to keep Del Norte Unified District schools open, the School Board unanimously voted Sunday aftrnoon to close all Del Norte Unified District schools, which includes all District operated preschools, and the County Superintendent authorized the closure of schools operated by the Del Norte County Office of Education.
This does not include any educational program not operated by the District or County Office, including Uncharted Shores Academy, private schools, or preschools not operated by the District. District and County school closure will be effective immediately with schools closing to students from Monday, March 16 through April 10. Spring Break will remain as scheduled on April 13-17. School will resume as planned on Monday, April 20.
The District will continue to provide the seamless meals program, ensuring that all children, ages 0-18, will have access to free breakfast and lunch in a drive-through or take and go model. The District will also work with providers to determine support for students with IEPs, students with health-related services, and students who receive mental health supports.
District teachers will also be working with their site administration to create enrichment and educational opportunities that can be used by parents and students while they are home during this time. During the closure, attendance is not taken, work is not considered independent study (and therefore not required) and all school co- and extracurricular events are canceled.
We understand that school closures have a profound effect on students and the community as a whole. Our goal is to ultimately help protect the health of our students, families, and communities so that we can resume and normalize operations as soon as possible.
