The Lady Bruins took the show back on the road Tuesday night and made the long trip to Winston to take on the 3-3 Douglas Lady Trojans.
With both teams coming into the game off of recent wins, both teams attacked early to establish a lead.
Junior Sierra Fitzhugh #00 and senior Avana Pettus carried a sluggish Lady Bruin team in the first with Fitzhugh hitting two baskets and Pettus hitting a bucket for the 6 Bruin points in the first period. Foul trouble plagued an aggressive Lady Bruin team in the first as the Lady Trojans took a 6-9 lead into the second period.
The second period was the complete opposite of the first. The Lady Bruins had 7 players in the scorebook offensively as the defense shut down the Lady Trojan offense. Junior forward Lexi Schofield #1 led the way for the Lady Bruins in the second hitting a 3 pointer and going 4 for 4 from the free-throw line. Senior point guard Sidney Alexander hit for 6 points off of a 3 pointer, a basket and a free throw. But the Lady Bruin defense was the story in the second, again allowing an opponent only 2 points in the period.
Starting the third, the Lady Trojans spread the ball around and put 4 players on the scoreboard for a respectable 11 points. But the Lady Bruins would have none of it, and dialed up the pressure, even more, putting 5 players in the scorebook led by junior forward Shelby Jirsa #5 who hit a big 3 pointer and basket for 5 points in the period.
Leading 44-22 going into the final period, the Lady Bruins showed no let-up again putting 6 players on the scoring column. Lady Bruin Lexi Schofield led all scorers with 13 points on the night, followed by Sidney Alexander who hit three 3’s in the game for 9 of her 12 points, and Sierra Fitzhugh who hit for 11 points.
The Lady Bruins will be home Friday night taking on the undefeated 7-0 Sutherlin Bulldogs at 5:30 pm at Bruin Arena.
