On Thursday evening, January 2nd, according to the California Highway Patrol a 37 year old man was walking southbound on Hwy. 101, just south of Smith River at Timbers Blvd., when he was struck by an unknown vehicle just after 9:30pm.
The vehicle then fled the scene traveling southbound on Hwy. 101.
The pedestrian was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital by Del Norte Ambulance and was later life flighted to Mercy Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Information regarding the hit and run vehicle and the name of the victim is being withheld at this time as next of kin are notified and the cause of the collision is under investigation.
