Brookings-Harbor Varsity Football took to the field Friday night in another non-league game against the Mustangs of Hidden Valley.
Hidden Valley broke out to 7-0 lead on the Bruins with their first rushing touchdown with 4:11 left in the first quarter.
During the following possession, the Bruins would then mishandle the snap and turn the ball over to the Mustangs. A tough Brookings defense would then hold Hidden Valley, forcing a 35 yard field goal attempt to drift wide and hit off the right upright.
The remainder of the game would prove to be a contest riddled with missed tackles, fumbles and an interception by this growing Bruins team. Unfortunately, a 10 yard sack of the Mustang quarterback early in the game by Manny Zamora, a fumble recovery by middle linebacker Brig Schofield and a 28 yard rushing touchdown late in the game by Nick Martinez, would not be enough for the Bruins to overcome a Hidden Valley team taking full advantage of being at home.
A determined Bruin team would be able to control the ball on long drives and sustain ball possession, but the Bruins would never lead in the game.
Brookings-Harbor would ultimately fall to a good Mustang team 37-6 in a game featuring the Bruins blocking numerous kick attempts, with turnovers and rushing touchdowns by both teams.
This young core of Bruins players is looking forward to a packed house of excited Brookings-Harbor fans for their first home game of the season against the Dalles in another non-league game at Bruin field Friday night, September 15th at Bruin field.
