Dangerous Surf Warning Issued

According to the U.S. National Weather Service , a long-period swell, originating from a very strong storm that developed south of the Aleutians, will arrive on the Oregon coast Thursday.

There will be a significantly increased risk for sneaker waves Thursday and Thursday night as this swell train arrives, especially during the rising tide Thursday morning.

Periods of smaller waves will be accompanied by sudden larger waves that have the potential to sweep beach goers into the water. Higher than normal surf is then expected for much of the day Friday.

Beaches and shorelines will be susceptible to sudden inundation and unexpected wave action than can sweep people into the cold, churning water. Beachgoers should stay off of rocks, jetties, and logs, and never turn their back to the ocean.
