Lady Bruin Soccer Starts Post-Season TODAY!!!

Lady Bruin varsity head coach Kyla Siri and her 3A/2A/1A-SD4 Special District 4 repeat Champion and #6 OSAA ranked 2019 Lady Bruins soccer team will begin their postseason play TODAY at Brookings-Harbor High School at 3:00 pm!!!

TODAY at 3:00 pm at Brookings-Harbor High School the Lady Bruin varsity soccer team, finishing with a 12-1-1 overall regular-season record scoring 36 points while allowing only 10 goals all year, will match up against the 9-5-1 #10 OSAA ranked Blanchet Catholic Lady Cavaliers.

The Lady Cavaliers will travel from Salem to Brookings for a match-up that on paper looks to be quite close. The Lady Cavaliers come into the contest with an offense that scored 30 goals and a defense that allowed 10 goals in regular-season play.

Lady Bruin defender Lexi Schofield #14 and senior Cecelia Hilton #18 have been solid all year.

While both teams can score, the Lady Bruin defense will need to come up big and limit the open shots on Lady Bruin keeper Annie Nation as they have all year. Lady Bruin defenders Lexi Schofield and senior Cecelia Hilton will need to gather and clear the ball quickly out of the defensive middle limiting chances for a mistake in front of the goal.

The Lady Bruins will need junior mid-fielder, Tilly Peters, to control the midfield and build the Bruin offense from the back putting the Lady Bruin strikers in position to score. The Lady Cavaliers have had an inconsistent season losing to #21 ranked Portland Adventist Academy, tied #25 ranked Amity/Perrydale and lost 3 times, allowing a combined 11 goals to #4 Yamhill-Carlton all while putting together 9 wins against several ranked teams.

Tilly Peters #4 has been key to the Bruin offensive transition at mid-field.

This game will come down to ball control and defense. It could be one mistake that decides this game as both teams have demonstrated their ability to capitalize on mistakes. But the Bruin defense, anchored by keeper Annie Nation, have shown the ability to shut down those opportunities, recording 7 shut outs on the season.

Senior striker Avana Pettus #10 and Hannah James will need to take advantage of every offensive opportunity.

With all this, you can’t win if you don’t score, and strikers Hannah James and senior Avana Pettus will need to team up to beat the offside trap. The Lady Cavaliers will be prepared for the Bruins front line speed, but what they will not be able to prepare for is the power and accuracy the Lady Bruins offense has displayed all season.

This should be a very entertaining game, get out the BHHS soccer field at the high school at 3:00 pm and help support the Lady Bruins further into the play-offs.
