Unhealthy Air Quality

Brookings, Gold Beach, Agness and Cave Junction are expected to continue to experience extreme smoke impacts from the Chetco Bar Fire, although Brookings is seeing considerably better conditions this afternoon than were evident on Saturday.

Extreme fire behavior is expected again today as critical burn conditions exist. Consequently, heavy smoke continues to drain and settle in valleys and low-lying areas thus unhealthy to hazardous air quality levels are expected, as is low visibility along Highways 101, 199 and other local roadways.

Inland communities such as Cave Junction and Grants Pass will remain in the Unhealthy to Hazardous range. With northwest winds developing Brookings and Agness may see some improvement late this afternoon.

Officials have noted that the Gold Beach and Agness smoke monitors are down and being worked on.
