Just before 3:00pm, Tuesday afternoon, the southern portion of Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative service territory lost power for about 3.5 hours .
Tuesday afternoon, Coos-Curry Electric reported that it had lost electrical transmission service to an estimated 7-8,000 people between Gold Beach and Brookings.
Crews still had not identified the problem as of 4:00pm Monday afternoon, however, a broken insulator and detached wire was found on a Bonneville Power Administration transmission line north of Gold Beach.
There are normally 2 transmission lines that feed Coos-Curry Electric from the Bonneville Power Administration substation north of Gold Beach. This is the area where Bonneville Power Administration transmission lines end and Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative’s begin.
One of those lines was out of service for maintenance. The remaining line had an insulator failure which created a “ground fault”. You can see the wire on the ground in the photos.
Once Coos-Curry Electric identified the problem, crews began the process of routing power around the problem area and re-energizing the Coos-Curry Electric substations, homes and businesses.
