Thursday evening was the opening game of the 2019 Azalea Middle School Bruin football season, and a new crop of young athletes began a long school year of athletics.
Azalea had the ball to start the season off and wasted no time striking against the visiting Marshfield team. Just 2 plays into the game, Azalea’s #7 took a sweep to the left and ran 42 yards for the Azalea touchdown giving Azalea an 8-0 lead early.
But Marshfield would strike back quickly, hitting a receiver on a quick slant that would turn into a long touchdown.
The Azalea Bruins played strong defense holding Marshfield to short gains, however, Marshfield was content to just run the ball and run the clock. Marshfield sustained long drives and scored on multiple long plays from scrimmage.
The Azalea Bruins will be on the road to Myrtle Point to take on Myrtle Crest Middle school Tuesday, September 17th.
