Hwy. 199 Closed 3 hours After Deadly Crash

On Thursday, August 15th, just before 4:30pm, the Illinois Valley Fire District and American Medical Response responded to a two vehicle crash on Hwy. 199 seven miles south of Cave Junction.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by 58 year Keith Willis of Cave Junction, was traveling south on Hwy 199 when it crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a silver Audi operated by 25 year old Jose Ortiz Adata.

Willis sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Ortiz Adata was transported Asante Three Rivers Medical Center by American Medical Response with non-life threatening injuries.

Hwy. 199 was closed for 3 hours. Initial traffic control was provided by Illinois Valley Fire District CERT and then turned over to Oregon Department of Transportation. Oregon State Police investigated the crash.
