Early Morning Structure Fire Spreads to Brush

Very early Thursday morning, July 4, at approximately 4:00 am, the Illinois Valley Fire District, Rural Metro, and Oregon Department of Forestry responded to a Structure Fire on North Gold Canyon Drive.

The 35 ft. RV trailer was engulfed in flames shortly after the 911 call was placed. All residents escaped the fire safely. The fire quickly spread into the wildland because large amounts of brush had not been cleared from around the trailer.

Crews quickly put a fire break around the fire and held the fire under to just one-tenth of an acre (4,356 Sq.Ft.)

STRUCTURE FIRE SPREADS INTO THE WILDLANDThis Morning July 4, at 4:00AM the Illinois Valley Fire District, Rural Metro, and Oregon Department of Forestry respond to a Structure Fire on North Gold Canyon Drive. The 35 ft. RV trailer was engulfed in flames shortly after the 911 call was placed. All residents escaped the fire safely. The fire quickly spread into the wildland because large amounts of brush had not been cleared from around the trailer. Besides extinguishing the trailer, IVFD and Rural Metro helped ODF go after the wildland fire. ODF quickly put a fire break around the fire and held the fire under one tenth of an acre (4,356 Sq.Ft.). All fire crews were hampered by a car parked at the beginning of a fairly long driveway. Crews had to spend time manually sliding the front of the car into the street enabling it to be pushed out of the way. The cause of the fire was determined by IVFD Fire Marshal to inappropriate use of a lit candle. IVFD Rehab Unit, Pacific Power, and IVFD CERT also responded and provided services.
