Today Monday, May 13 at 5:33 PM Illinois Valley Fire District responded to a Structure Fire in the 400 Block of Schumacher St in Cave Junction.
The single-story house was engulfed in flames upon arrival of the 1st unit. Because the house is located in town near a fire hydrant the engine had an ample supply of water. This allowed the crew to use the monitor, deck gun, mounted on the top of the engine to quickly knock down the fire.
Two vehicles parked in the driveway near the house suffered some damage as did the house next door. No one was in the house at the time of the fire however two dogs were found deceased in the house.
Rural Metro Fire and Grants Pass Fire supplied equipment and crews to help with the fire and the cleanup. Rogue River Fire and Applegate Fire moved equipment up to help cover both Rural Metro and Grants Pass areas. Oregon Department of Forestry also responded to help prevent the fire from spreading into the nearby wildland.
An American Medical Response Ambulance stood by at the scene in the event of any injuries. Illinois Valley Fire District CERT supplied traffic control and filled air bottles. Illinois Valley Fire District Rehab unit supported the firefighter with rest, food, and water. Pacific Power disconnected the power to the building in order to protect the firefighters.
