K9 Officer Odin Encounters Porcupine During Chase

On Saturday, April 20th, a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted a known wanted subject with several felony warrants. The subject, identified as Devin J. Wilson of Coos Bay subsequently fled from the Deputy on foot.

Coos County Sheriff K9 Officer Odin was called to the scene to conduct a criminal apprehension track for the suspect. During a very long active attack, K9 Officer Odin encountered a porcupine in the path and was struck with over 200 quills. Several of the quills went inside Odin’s mouth and two near his eye.

The track was immediately suspended and Odin was rushed to the vet at Hansen-Meckins Animal Hospital where he was sedated and treated for over two hours on the night before Easter.

The Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Mr. Wilson as he has committed new crimes and still has outstanding warrants.

Earlier in the Saturday, K9 Officer Odin attended a “meet the public” event, where he interacted with kids and the public at a local Easter egg hunt.
