NMMC Volunteers Rescue Injured Young Sea Lion

A big shout out to the volunteers Northcoast Marine Mammal Center in Crescent City for rescuing this yearling California sea lion Friday. They had to climb down (and back up) the side of a cliff in the mud and rain to rescue Sir Edmond. He has large abscesses on his left front and rear flippers that are hindering his movement.

Since its founding in 1984, the mission of the non-profit Northcoast Marine Mammal Center is to respond to reports of stranded marine mammals along the coastline of Humboldt and Del Norte counties. All rescued animals are then transferred to our rehabilitation facility at 424 Howe Drive in Crescent City, California.

Volunteers provide the bulk of animal care and also work in the gift shop. Without dedicated volunteers, and $10 donations to “Meals for Seals” that feed one of the animals for a day, the Northcoast Marine Mammal Center would be unable to help so many animals!
