Atmospheric River Leaves it’s Mark

Curry County Emergency Services released a conditions report as of 12:00 am Monday morning.

According to that report, a landslide had occurred on North Bank Chetco River Road near Loeb Park, causing a total road blockage.

Severe flooding was occurring along the Chetco River. At that time many residences were currently flooded along the banks of the river as the river encroached upon the county road systems.

High tide was forecast for 1:49 am, continuing to raise the river an additional couple feet from its current level at 12:00 am. Flooded homes were generally in the tidal zone.

The report also reported a substantial landslide had occurred on Winchuck River Road near the fire station, causing a total road blockage.

In Gold Beach at 12:00 am severe flooding was reported along Hunter Creek, south of Gold Beach. Hunter Creek Road was impassable due to significant high water over the road surface.

Several smaller slides were reported throughout the county, however no specifics were available at that time.

Gardner Ridge near Cate Road was reported to have one lane washed out. Highway 101 sustained new slides and debris blockages throughout Curry County. No road closures were reported on Hwy. 101 as of 12:00 am, and no report on the Hooskananden slide area was included in the report.
