The Northcoast Marine Mammal Center in Crescent City is sending out a reminder that harbor seal pup season has started here in Humboldt and Del Norte counties. If you find a seal pup on the beach, please do NOT touch it!
Please keep your distance and keep all pets leashed. Most likely it’s mom is foraging offshore and knows exactly where she left her pup and she will not return if people and/or animals are near.

As reported in late March, the Northcoast Marine Mammal Center in Crescent City, got their first Pacific harbor seal pup of the 2019 season.
Meet Figaro. Figaro came in at only 13 pounds late last month. This poor little guy was dehydrated and had a tummy full of sand when he got here, but now that we’ve got that resolved, he is active, vocal and has already gained nearly four pounds! Go Figaro!
Since its founding in 1984, the mission of the non-profit Northcoast Marine Mammal Center is to respond to reports of stranded marine mammals along the coastline of Humboldt and Del Norte counties. All rescued animals are then transferred to our rehabilitation facility at 424 Howe Drive in Crescent City, California.
Volunteers provide the bulk of animal care and also work in the gift shop. Without dedicated volunteers, and $10 donations to “Meals for Seals” that feed one of the animals for a day, the Northcoast Marine Mammal Center would be unable to help so many animals!
