Just before 11:30 am Thursday, March 13th, emergency personnel were dispatched to a vehicle off the roadway on Hwy. 199 near Gasquet.
According to the California Highway Patrol a white Volkswagen Jetta, traveling southbound driven by a 17 year old male, lost control of the vehicle, went off the embankment striking a tree and crashed into the Smith River.
Both the driver and the female passenger were found deceased in the car. Their identities have not been released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
