The Coos Bay Police Department has identified Brandon Bryce Dawson, 26, of Orland, California, as the suspect in the attempted armed robbery that occurred in the Cranberry Sweets parking lot in the Empire district on Thursday, February 7th. Dawson is described as a white male adult, 5’11”, 178 lbs, with short brown hair and blue eyes. He has multiple tattoos on his arms, legs, neck, and head. The most notable is a neck tattoo, “2316” which may have been filled in or covered-up since the below photo was taken.
Just after 2:00 pm on Thursday February 7th, Coos Bay Police Officers responded to Cranberry Sweets after Mark Dixon called 911 reporting that a man he was meeting at the location had attempted to rob him at gunpoint. Dixon stated he was meeting a man in the parking lot of Cranberry Sweets after the man contacted him by phone asking if he was interested in purchasing a Canadian gold coin.
Dixon stated he arrived at the Cranberry Sweets parking lot to meet the man with the gold coin, and approximately 15 minutes later a male suspect walked up to the passenger side of his vehicle and tried to get in. The suspect then walked to the driver side of Dixon’s vehicle and attempted to open the driver door, only to find that it was locked as well. The suspect brandished a small black handgun and pointed it at Mr. Dixon while demanding that Dixon hand over his property. Dixon stated he put his vehicle in drive and sped away to get away from the suspect. Dixon stated the suspect fled the area on foot and was last seen heading south on S. Schoneman at Salmon Ave.
Probable cause has been placed for Dawson’s arrest for Attempted Robbery I, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Menacing. Dawson is believed to be armed with a handgun and is extremely dangerous. He may be trying to make his way back to California.
