The Jackson County Sheriff’s search and rescue was dispatched after receiving a 911 call Monday at 8:24 p.m. reporting a missing elderly man with dementia. The 74 year old Sterling Creek Road resident went for a walk on his forested property at 4 p.m. and hadn’t returned. Family began looking for him and called 911.
A Jackson County Sheriff deputy and search and rescue personnel responded. Search and rescue K9 Angus and his handler Linda followed the man’s scent, locating him approximately one-tenth of a mile from his house. A search and rescue ground crew carried him to a waiting ambulance so he could be treated at the hospital for minor injuries. We are glad to report he is now home and doing better.
Search and rescue staff reminds everyone to call for help as soon as possible if you believe someone is missing. This is especially important toward the end of the day when conditions include increasing darkness and colder temperatures.
