Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue located two missing hunters in the Huckleberry Mountain area near Prospect, at approximately 1:30pm Monday afternoon.
After being out in the elements for three days and two nights, the hunters, a 72 and 68 year old husband and wife team, were found and successfully rescued by Search and Rescue personnel, friends, and family members.
Search and Rescue began searching the area Sunday with K9, vehicles, and a ground team with personnel searching through the night, but were unable to locate the hunters.
On Monday morning Search and Rescue initiated another callout to assist with the search including ATV, mounted horseback, ground hikers, vehicles, and drone.
Conditions in the area were cold and rainy with low clouds making searching difficult and limiting air operations and as a Search and Rescue hiking team and K9 unit were tracking them, the lost hunters responded to the rescuer’s verbal calls.
Search and Rescue personnel treated them on scene for hypothermia and minor injuries and prepped them for litter carry before friends and family assisted Search and Rescue personnel with carrying them out to an awaiting Mercy Flights ambulance where they were transported to a local hospital.
