Your eyes are a precious commodity and we here at the Wild Coast Compass want our readers to be sure they are taking all possible precautions to protect them. According to the AAS press secretary, Dr. Rick Feinberg, people planning on viewing the solar eclipse Monday, August 21st, need to really be sure the solar glasses they have purchased meet the industry standards for safe viewing. It has became evident that some glasses being sold have claimed they have the proper ISO certification when in fact they do not. While some glasses claim they are made by verified manufactures, the manufacturers are actually unknown.
To be sure your glasses are safe, they should have an ISO # of 12312-2 usually printed on the inside of the arm of the glasses.
It may be too late to verify or replace the eclipse glasses or viewers that you now have, so be sure to find alternate ways to safely view this once in a lifetime astronomical event. A great alternative to viewing is to simply watch the live feed at www.nasa.gov
